Public parks typically go through peaks and valleys over time. Waterway Park was originally designed by Hare and Hare, in 1911, as part of George Kessler's Parks and Boulevard Plan. The original design proposed a series of small lakes and gardens following the drainway leading to the Kansas River. That dream was never realized. Without clear direction and public input, the adjacent neighborhoods slowly fell behind.
Fast forward to 2008, a clear and workable vision came to fruition with the help of a local nonprofit CHWC. We formulated a plan which inlcuded a children playground, exercise stations, and educational rainwater gardens. Working with the City of Kansas City, we held a groundbreaking with gold shovels in hand. the Park renovation has sparked reinvestment into the surrounding homes. More interest is generated, more homes improved, and quality of life IMPROVED.
Waterway Park is a true success on investing in your local community, and the POWER of BEAUTY.
